Most of the time people who want to replace their garage door are also looking for a new garage door opener, but they are unsure about the model. Here is a few recommendations which will help you. The commun ones are chain and belt drive openers, with different powers (1/2 or 3/4 hp*, hp*=horse power). Chain drive openers are recommended for detached garages, belt drive openers are more for garage doors attached to the house, specially if there is a bedroom above the garage as they are quieter than the chain ones. If you have a big door (like double car garage) or if the door is heavy (like a wooden one), a 3/4 hp chain drive opener (or 3/4 hp belt if you want the quietest one) will be the best choice as it will have enough power to lift the garage. These ones are the most comnun garage door openers looking by our customers, but sometimes it happens that you do not have enough room above the garage to install an opener, so it does exist a solution called “wall-mounted opener” or “jackshaft opener”: this type of opener with a DC motor has the advantage of being mounted on the side of your garage door, but it is also the most expensive one.
